I have chosen option one of our CAP activity. The task requires me to build the stages of a successful short story.
 The theme: Trust

Some background information:
The following short story will concern itself with the life of a young woman, Amy, and the conflict she is faced with.  The plot of the story circles around Amy having found sickening pictures of tortured people with missing limbs and in revolting conditions in her boss's office. Towards the end of the story, a turn of events will take place and present every character in a different light.Clearly she links these images with her Boss's often aggressive personality that she has to bear with in order to keep her job.

Characters of the story:
Amy : A simple but hard working woman in her early twenties. Works at a sportswear company. Known to be submissive and shy. Quietly suffers from her Boss's harsh treatment.

Mr. parker : Amy's boss. CEO at a company for sports wear. A feisty guy in his mid fifties, prone to red skin and temper tantrums over insignificant issues. Very controlling and cunning.

Cole: Amy's boy friend -soon to be husband- of eight years. A good natured guy who loves Amy.

Plot of the story:
It's been a long day of hard work and even harder people to deal with. Amy is exhausted and wants nothing more but to feel the hot stream of water running down her shoulders and back, massaging themselves into her skin. Mr Parker had requested for her to run by her office in order to discuss "some issues he's been having lately." Amy was slightly confused but too dazed to be alarmed that her boss would want to discuss his issues with her ; the company mouse. After knocking on his door and opening it ,Amy realises there's no one in the office. Amy decides to stay and wait, as she has nothing better to occupy herself with.
Amy notices a black file sticking out of a drawer with the title "private content" hastily written on it. If there is one thing she knows about mr Parker, it is his absolute desire to have everything done at the correct pace in an orderly fashion. So, naturally, she pulls out the file to examine its contents.
What she finds within that file is the turning point of her life, causing all the other events to take place. In that file are perverse pictures of people from all ages, gender and nationalities , stripped of their clothes and worth. They appear to be in revolting conditions, crammed in a room ; everyone is bloody , pale and malnourished. The people look defeated and scared. One can not help but be reminded of a scatter of cockroaches waiting for their final death. Amy is absolutely speechless and unable to express her shock of those photos , neither is she able to tear her eyes away from this sight. She hears Mr parkers booming voice at the end of the corridor and quickly shoves the papers into the file and places it back exactly as it was, with the tip sticking out; so innocently. Mr Parker is very powerful and has people working for him that investigate the personal lives of his employees. He has taken an interest in people who appear boring and thus took it upon himself to research her relationship. The pictures he possesses were made by one of his associates who had followed Amy's boyfriend into an abandoned factory that was bought under a false identity. He now plans to enlighten amy of her mentally ill boyfriend who is extremely dangerous for her at the moment. However when he enters the room, she is gone.
Amy managed to sneak out while Mr Parker had his back turned to her , running across the parking place , feeling as though as Parker was running after her, the next victim.

- Amy now has to make a decision based on what she has seen in that office and what she knows about her boss. It all fits perfectly, however there's no chance that she'd get hired anywhere else at the moment and her boyfriend is out of work, meaning she needs to keep that job. Amy decides to return home to "safety" and confide into what she saw with Cole. It can be established that Cole is an excellent liar and actor , concealing any trace of fear or guilt with a worried and caring expression. After carefully extracting all the needed information from Amy, he promises her that he'll come up with a great solution and soothes her to sleep. What she doesn't know, due to her unassuming nature and strong relationship to Cole is that his solution is her immediate death.
- this story the theme of trust is exhibited through how someones decision can lead to ones own downfall.

  2. I felt that through literature one can display the way in which readers can be manipulated to believe something and come to learn that throughout the entire story , subtle hints were dropped to enlighten them of the truth. I think this story line has potential and could teach readers the importance of being familiar with literature and analysing people more accurately.
